Reedley, Fresno County
Thomas Law Reed, a Civil War veteran who farmed wheat on a grand scale, gave land for a railroad station in 1888, and the town of Reedley took his name. Mennonite families arrived soon after and planted orchards and vineyards. The city calls itself the World's Fruit Basket for the peaches, plums and nectarines packed here, and the Kings River runs along its western edge.
